This is REPORTEDLY NOT fiction.
The condo corporation at the decade old highrise
Luna Vista community in Toronto's CityPlace ( former central railyards ) apparently undertook a commendable initiative for consenting unit owners.
The initiative apparently was on unit-by-unit consent
to supply and install replacement high efficiency UNIT TOILETS even though such is usually a purely UNIT COMPONENT.
In principle who likely would argue with a more responsible use of a precious resource ?
Toilet re-design has met consumer resistance for decades, SOME of it turning out to be valid. AND lots of folks don`t want to take the trouble to understand trade-offs either.
Whatever the background, some owners are shrieking NOT ONLY about what they claim is a propensity of the replacements to PLUG UP. ( note the replacements are complained to be top-flushers only, NOT ``lateral`` ) BUT WORSE that they are told that the new toilet units are designed to be un-pluggable only by using a special device which appears
NOT to be available AT RETAIL ! ( some commenters say otherwise, but an online diagram curiously suggests a possibly vulnerable design too in keeping with the ``magic fit`` of the special device ).
What has management recommended ?
The article below - a cautionary tale well worth reading along with comments - shows management e-mailouts. Incidentally the article has gone viral at a large U.S. site.
Shown verbatim as a June 18 2020 e-mailout :
"TO ALL RESIDENTS, PLEASE DO NOT THROW ANY ITEM IN THE TOILET EXCEPT TOILET PAPER IN THE NEW TOILET AND IN CASE TOILET GET BLOCKED," (
sic )
"DO NOT USE THE REGULAR PLUNGER TO UNCLOGGED ( sic ) NEW TOILETS," the email continues. "USE ONLY xxx ( device which is chosen to be unidentified here ) . BORROW ONE FROM THE SECURITY ! SECURITY WILL KEEP YOUR ID AS GUARANTEE !"Aside from the hassles of queues & delay, ( ! )
sharing toilet plungers in normal times arguably raises hygienic concerns.
That this scenario is arriving amidst a deadly pandemic, is gob-smacking to some commenters . . .
Did the suppliers of the special device supply the matching toilets ?
Will the plunger work better than what some owners are complaining about the special new toilets ?
